Overview

Trade Aid is a social enterprise creating fairness in trade. We work with food and craft producers around the world, and we support and educate kiwi consumers to join with us in creating a world where trade is fair for all.

Features:
  • This round storage basket with handles is handwoven from natural hogla rope and black and cream jute fibres. Hand crafted by skilled basketry artisans working with one of our fair trade partners in Bangladesh.
  • Hogla is thick grass like plant that grows in the rivers and marshlands in southern parts of Bangladesh. Hogla leaves are cut and dried in the sun before artisans weave these to create a rope. Jute is a natural vegetable fibre that comes from the skin of the jute plant’s stem. Jute is the leading natural resource in Bangladesh and is 100% biodegradable, a renewable resource and sustainably harvested. The fibres are spun into strong, coarse threads which are highly versatile.
